Monte de la Torre is considered one of the most attractive areas within the Park and is appreciated by all who come to visit and stay at Casas Cuadras, the former stable block of the estate.

Casas Cuadras forms part of the Monte de la Torre Estate. The buildings were designed by the English Architect, Thomas Calcutt, when he was working on the Reina Cristina Hotel for Lord Farringdon in the early 1900s. He also designed the Savoy Hotel and the Cambridge Theatre in London.

The old walls are protected by a blue lime wash. Details round the windows are painted in traditional Andalucian ochre.  A small lilly pond leads off the terrace of the main house. It attracts a variety of small frogs who enjoy serenading us in the evenings.

Cottages
Thanks to the temperate climate of the Province of Cadiz and the improvement in communications now making this attractive area easily accessible, Casas Cuadras has become known for it's happy atmosphere for families on holiday.

Accommodation:

The conversion of the stables into two cottages respects the original designs. Built round a traditional courtyard, each cottage is an independent unit, although planned to interconnect for larger parties.   Local traditional materials are used throughout. Baked tiles cover all the floors; these are both practical and pretty. The Andaluz essence remains and the interior decoration has warm washes and patinas.

Dining
Bedroom
Using two sides of the old stables, two independent cottages have been created and modernised with comfort and charm for easy living.

Both cottages look out onto the patio as well as onto the gardens. The patio is filled with traditional orange trees, scented shrubs, flowers and fountains.

Each cottage sleeps 4 (5 with an optional extra bed), in comfortable twin bedrooms with modern bathroom, kitchen, well appointed sitting room and terrace. One cottage has a double bed.

Bedroom
Although we have a relatively mild climate, both cottages have fireplaces and other forms of heating for winter lets. They are furnished with a mixture of English antiques and local traditional furniture. Sheets and towels are changed weekly. A cook and extra help can be arranged. Washing machine and ironing facilities are available. Kitchens are well equipped and include dishwashers.

A small pool in the garden is ideal and safe for children and for adults to cool off in and do aerobics!

This is NOT for the would be olympic swimmer, however the estate lake is 5 minutes walk away and both the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas are nearby.

Activities:

The area offers a wide choice of activities for all ages. :

  • A 5 minutes walk will take you to the lake. It is stocked with black bass for fishing enthusiasts.
  • There are attractive walks around the lake, through the cork woods and surrounding hills.
  • Riding can be arranged from various Riding Establishments in the area with the advantage of being able to ride across country or along the sea shore.
  • The lovely and as yet relatively unspoiled beaches of the Atlantic are close by. Excursions are organized from La Linea and Tarifa to see Dolphins in the bay.
  • Tarifa, 20 minutes drive, is a mecca for swimmers, wind and kite surfers.
  • There is a wide selection of golf courses along the Mediterranean coast. The nearest are Alcaidesa, San Roque Club, Sotogrande and Valderrama.
  • The famous White Towns of Medina Sidonia, Alcalá de los Gazules, Arcos de la Frontera, Vejer de la Frontera, Jimena de la Frontera are approximately 40 minutes to 1 hours drive. The cities of Seville, Cádiz and Ronda are easily accessible by car.
