A gorgeous hideaway close to Ronda....
El Tejar is the very highest house in the small village of Montecorto, a quarter of an hour from Ronda. From its lofty perch you have extraordinary panoramic views of the Grazalema mountains. The house, which has been featured in several interior design magazines, is decorated in Andalusian/Moroccan style. evoking the region's Moorish past. Base elements of whitewashed beams and terracotta floors have been stylishly combined with warm colour washes. There are hundreds of books, CD players in all rooms and masses of paintings and framed prints. Bedrooms have the same bright/ethnic feel: linen is top of the range, mattresses too, and all are big on space. A charming housekeeper, Francisca, cleans and tidies every day and can prepare meals for guests, should they wish. And sculpted into the hillside is a gorgeous pool surrounded by terraced areas, shaded by quince, olive, almond and citrus trees. A wholly exceptional rental property. (There is a computer with free 24 hour Internet access).

It too has windows on all three sides and has access to an almond-shaded terrace & down to the pool. Cueva is the lowest room in the house, well away from other rooms. Activities and Area Information:

The pretty village of Montecorto is at the edge of the Grazalema National Park, a Unesco Biosphere reserve, which has some of the best hiking in Europe. (The owner of El Tejar has written a guide to the best walks). The fauna and flora of the Park are remarkable: more than a third of Spain's plant species grow here and ornithologists come from the world over because of the abundance of raptors and migrating birds. Just a quarter of an hour away is the extraordinary Roman theatre of Acinipo, hewn out of solid rock, and the Pileta cave - with some of Europe's best rock painting - is just a short drive away. Ronda, one of Spain's most spectacular towns, can be reached in fifteen minutes by car. The village of Montecorto is one of the 'pueblos blancos', a cluster of white hill villages which stretch from Arcos in the west to Ronda in the east. These villages are amongst the prettiest in Spain. And Sevilla, Jerez, Arcos, Cadiz and Granada can all be easily visited from Montecorto.
