del Virrey, hidden on the plain, offers the perfect refuge and base from
which to explore the still undiscovered Mallorca. The family crest on the
outside of the Migjorn wall welcomes us to house and declares the Campaner
family emblem: "phenicis instar vivet nomen campanae sonabit", which translates
as "like the life of the phoenix bird, the bell (Campaner) will ring";
and that is how it has been. Here the stones jealously guard the legacy
of its illustrious residents. In its domain the most important chapters
of Mallorcan history have been written.
An
old Mallorcan privateer family in the service of His Majesty King Felipe
IV of Spain, in constant battle against Turks and Arabs, left the turbulent
Mediterranean waters and settled down at last on the Mallorcan plain brining
esteem and splendor to a normally troublesome territory, leaving behind
the clamor of legendary sea battles.
Tribunal
judge of the Holy See, corsairs, viceroys, nobles... are all "concepts"
which will all become familiar to us when we go through the tunnel of time.
This
house has sixteen rooms between suites and double rooms, with the feudal
noble charm and the traditions if times long past. The period decor boast
absolute tranquillity, between works of art, oil paintings, tapestries
and genuine museum pieces. Majestic salons with marble fireplaces, stone
entrance, coach house...together form part of a step back into Mallorca's
renaissance period. Only the swimming pool, located in the spacious garden
area, reminds us that we are in the 21th century. The rooms maintain the
feeling of the era, however they are fitted with all the modern comforts,
air conditioning, central heating, TV, minibar, telephone and spacious
bathrooms.
