The Sierra Nevada is the highest mountain range in Europe after the Alps - a dramatic, rugged and extensive mountain range,  the most significant section of the Cordillera Penibética. The protected area has torrential rivers, sheer-sided gorges, stony scree slopes, glacial lakes between snowy summits and, in the foothills of the Alpujarras, cultivated terraces of almond trees and vegetables.  Sol y Nieve, the ski resort, is located in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and is the most southerly ski resort in Europe.  The area offers many opportunities for rural tourism and accommodation. Albunuelas - pretty little working village 30 minutes from Granada and the Alhambra, and 40 minutes from the coast.  Situated in the Lecrin Valley (Moorish for Valley of Happiness) - walk among the fruit trees, and beautiful wild flowers.  Also visit Lake Beznar at the bottom of the gorge.  The area is perfect for walking, ski-ing, fishing, golf and bird watching. The parador stands on the site of the old castle of Ayamonte which was originally a rock castle, and the village was built on the slopes of the hill on which the castle stood. From the parador location, there is a magnificent view of the river and the surrounding towns and villages along its banks, a view which at sunset becomes even more beautiful and unforgetable.  All of the 54 rooms are double and those facing the front have a little balcony facing the river. The rooms facing the back have a coquette private interior patio.  The cuisine typical of Ayamonte consist of fish, shellfish and all type of sausage. La Raya en pimenton (stingray with red pepper) is outstanding and although the experts claim that it is best eaten in January it is delicious all through the year. El calamar relleno (stuffed squid) is another speciality.

Set in the heart of the Cazorla mountain range, 24 kilometres away from Cazorla Town, the sinuous access road leads to the hotel which is embedded in a landscape compulsory for nature lovers who shun the noisy city.  All of the rooms are exterior except for those facing the patio or those situated in the annex.
