formed by an immense 180-tonne monolith. To reach this, and the nearby
Cueva de Viera (same hours), take the Granada road out of town - the turning,
rather insignificantly signposted, is after about 1km on the left. A third
cave, El Romeral (same hours), is rather different (and later) in its structure,

| Torremolinos - is a tourism-oriented
city and municipality on the Costa del Sol of the Mediterranean, immediately
to the west of the city of Málaga, in the province of Málaga
in the autonomous region of Andalusia in southern Spain. A poor fishing
village before the growth in tourism beginning in the late 1950s, Torremolinos
was the first of the Costa del Sol resorts to develop. It is very popular
with British tourists and has a large British expatriate population. The
town is dominated by high-rise development, considered ugly by some people. |
| Torremolinos had its heyday during
the eighties and into the nineties, but over the last five years there
has been a noticeable shortening of the "high" season, and a change in
the demographic structure of visitors. It continues to have a thriving
indigenous gay population, which it continues to attract. |
| It also attracts families, but the
young fun-loving 18-30 visitors are being replaced by an older crowd of
"snowbirds" - pensioners travelling overseas, over winter for the sunshine.

| Arcos de la Frontera
- ...of more substantial interest than Zahara de la Sierra, and a better
place to break the journey, is ARCOS DE LA FRONTERA. This was taken from
the Moors in 1264, over two centuries before Zahara fell - an impressive
feat, for it stands high above the Río Guadalete on a double crag
and must have been a wretchedly impregnable fortress. This dramatic location,
enhanced by low, white houses and fine sandstone churches, gives the town
a similar feel and appearance to Ronda - only Arcos is poorer and, quite
unjustifiably, far less visited. The streets of the town, despite particularly
manic packs of local bikers, are if anything more interesting, with their
mix of Moorish and Renaissance buildings. At the heart is the Plaza del
Cabildo, easily reached by following the signs for the parador , which
occupies one side of it. Flanking another two sides are the castle walls
and the large Gothic-Mudéjar church of Santa María de la
Asunción; the last side is left open, offering plunging views to

The Murillo Apartments enjoy
a very good location on pedestrian Reinoso Street, in the historic Santa
Cruz Quarter. This street is also known as The Street of the Kiss, because
it is so narrow that two lovers could kiss, standing on balconies opposite
each other. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the Giralda, the Cathedral,
the Reales Alcazares and the Murillo Gardens, within the historical center
