- delightful port
city located on the Costa Cálida. A tradition of seafaring now combines

main attractions, the extensive coastline. Originally an old Roman fishing
port, it is worth visiting Plaza de España's beautiful gardens full
of rubber plants, the City Hall (19th century), and the parish church of
San José. At the top of the old town, standing on a promontory,
is the castle-fortress of San Juan de Águilas, built in 1579 for
purposes of defence. Below it sits the port and its characteristic black-and-white
striped lighthouse, in operation since the mid-19th century. |

of 16,707 (2006) and an area of 16.5 km². It is 24 km from the provincial

Whilst undergoing recent development,
further Roman Ruins were found on the site of the Spa, which are now being
painstakingly excavated, with minimal disruption to visitors. It
has also recently been used as a location for the forthcoming movie re-make
of Ernest Hemingway's Garden of Eden, starring Jack Huston, Richard E.

Balneario
de Archena - Hotel Termas, Archena
Constructed at the end of
the XIX century, Hotel Termas partially maintains its original Mozarabic
style, which is its main characteristic trait. It is the principal hotel
in the spa, due to its elegance and tradition. The hotel offers room
service and has a restaurant. The hotel remains open all year round.
The building was refurbished recently, although still keeps part of the
decoration from last century in Mozarabic style. The cupola stands out,
located in the mentioned Mozarabic area, as does the Roman tombstone from
the end of the 1st century, and at the entrance of the spa rooms the fountain
is found, a replica of the Patio de los Leones fountain in the Alhambra,
