ABDET - COSTA BLANCA RURAL SELF-CATERING HOLIDAY RENTALS
Abdet is a small village in the Guadalest Valley of the Costa Blanca, Valencian region of Spain. It is an hamlet of Confrides. Click to view map
The population is primarily of Arab origin, as it was given to Vidal de Sarrià in 1264 by King Jaime I. The houses of Cardona and Ariza controlled it before the Muslims rebelled in 1526 against the order of conversion sent by Carlos I. Battles against Castile recurred until 1609, when there was an evacuation to the shelter of the mountains of the Valley of Laguart, leaving only 12 houses occupied.  The town was later repopulated, and in the 18th century there were twenty-five houses. The complete municipality of Abdet and Confrides had 822 inhabitants. During recent centuries the population has decreased. During period 1960-1970 there was a 17% reduction, and during recent decades it has gone down to 50% of its 1960 population.

Abdet has a Fiesta at Easter and also during August. Abdet has commanding views of the valley. It is a good base for walking and climbing, and also has a canyon, The Barranco de Meli, which is a popular canyon trip requiring ropes.

Estivella - "...a small village which boasts several traditional bakers, using wood-fired ovens to bake twice a day, shops to cover all your needs and a weekly market. This is not a tourist village, in the sense of tourists from overseas, although Estivella has long been a summer destination for people from the nearby city of Valencia, seeking to escape the summer heat of the coast. The village is set within acres of attractive 'huerta' where you can stroll or cycle along level paths amongst oranges, almonds, pomegranates and olives.." La Escaleta, Estivella Click to view map

Some centuries later it was conquered from the Moors by a son of Ferdinand III of Castile. The Spanish sailor Jorge Juan y Santacilia was born in Novelda. The local Museum has many examples of his works and writings. Places of tourist interest in Novelda include the monastery of Santa María Magdalena (dated from the 19th century), which has a church designed by a disciple of Gaudi, the Moorish castle of the Mola, with its unique triangular tower, and the Museum of Modernism, the CASA - MUSEO MODERNISTA. This is a well preserved art nouveau house with original artefacts from the 1920s. The house itself is a work of art.  Novelda’s Modernista House-Museum is located in a modernista building designed by Pedro Cerdan Martinez (1903-1906) and is now a centre for modernista research and promotion. PINOSO RURAL SELF-CATERING ACCOMMODATION
Pinoso, Spain is a traditional town which sits about 40 minutes' drive inland from Alicante airport. It used to be an agricultural town, being wine the main product of the area. Click to view map
Recently it has seen itself suddenly immersed in the big shift which tourism in the Alicante province is experiencing: since the coast line has virtually no more room for new residentials, these are moving inland into the province, along with new developments like golf courses meant to offer something else to these tourists which most of the times get a second residence in the area like their parents may have done in the 80's in the very coast line which, by the way, it keeps being at short driving distance from the new residentials.  Therefore a very popular area for British, German and other European countries expats is developing fast in the area along with a new housing boom which concerns some in terms of sustainability. There is a thriving English expat community there, but the town still manages to retain its authenticity. Pinoso is about 10 minutes' drive from Yecla. The expats are bringing a sizeable English and German (to a lesser degree, also Dutch) community to an area where both Spanish language and Valencian were the only languages used only a few years ago.
